Chapter 5 recounts two specific miracles that stunned Chand Patil as the Fakir prepared a chillum. First, to light the tobacco, the Fakir needed fire. He simply thrust a pair of tongs (chimta) into the earth and pulled out a glowing ember, which he placed on the chillum. Next, to wet the cloth (chapi) for the pipe, water was needed, but there was none nearby. The Fakir then struck his short stick (satka) on the ground, and a stream of water began to flow.
