In his early days in Shirdi, Maharaj's approach to healing underwent a significant transformation. Initially, he provided medicines to people completely free of charge. As detailed in Chapter 0, he was so dedicated that if a patient was not being properly cared for, he would personally attend to them. However, he later stopped administering conventional medicine. Instead, he began giving only Udi, or sacred ash, which people found to be beneficial. Maharaj himself explained this shift to the author, stating that he used to give medicine but later stopped and started chanting "Hari Hari," through which he "met Hari."
