While Mhalasapati was the primary guardian, Chapter 44 describes a variety of other people and their reactions during the 1886 trance. The "whole village gathered there," watching in amazement and feeling stunned as Baba's body remained motionless. After two days, "Maulvis, Mullas, and Fakirs" came to debate the next steps. More proactively, "Appa Kulkarni and Kashiram" decided to proceed with burial arrangements. There were also unnamed people who argued against this haste, insisting that "Baba’s speech is infallible," while others countered that the body was cold and consciousness would not return.
