Besides directing people to readings, what other methods did Baba use to interact with devotees from the Masjid?

Even while seated in the Masjid, Sai Baba's grace extended to devotees in various ways. Chapter 18 explains that Baba is always 'close within' a devotee, whether they are near or far. He would assign tasks to people and give them his own power to get the work done. A specific example is provided where Baba, while the author (Shama) was serving him, suddenly remembered Shama and sent Madhavrao with a message. The message was to collect fifteen rupees as Dakshina from Shama and to sit and converse with him for a while, demonstrating Baba's ability to orchestrate interactions and tasks from a distance.
