Besides devotion, what other reasons for giving are mentioned in the scriptures, and what is the most important factor?

๐Ÿ“– Chapter 14

In Chapter 14, while discussing the act of giving, the text references the Taittiriya Upanishad to show that there are many types and motivations for it. The single most important factor is faith; the scripture clearly states, 'Giving should always be done with faith; that which is given without faith is not received.' However, other reasons for giving are also acknowledged. A person might give something out of fear of a king's command or a scripture's command. One might also give out of shame or to adhere to social customs, such as exchanging gifts at weddings to maintain friendships, which is framed as an 'education of social behavior.'
