Yes, before setting out for the Chavadi, Sai Baba performed a few specific actions. Chapter 37 describes how after getting ready in His usual kafni and taking His satka (short stick) and chilim (pipe), Baba would go to a spot where a bundle of firewood was kept. He would move His right big toe at that spot for a moment. Following this, He would personally wave His right hand over the burning flame there, extinguishing it before the procession would begin. These actions were a consistent part of His departure from the Masjid.
