Chapter 37 explains that the 'knowledge of difference' is the ignorant belief that the individual self is separate from the ultimate reality, or Parabrahman. A person holding this view thinks, 'Parabrahman is different from me; I am not that, I am something else.' According to the teachings in this chapter, this delusion is the direct cause of being trapped in the cycle of worldly existence (Samsara). The text states that for one who possesses such knowledge, death follows birth and rebirth follows death, turning the wheel of Samsara eternally behind him.
