As recounted in Chapter 34, the family decided to go to Shirdi as a last resort. After all medical options, including various treatments and surgery, had failed to cure the boy's bone-cyst, the relatives were at their wit's end. It was at this point that word reached them of a famous Avaliya, or saint, living in Shirdi.
