Chapter 19 explains this by using a detailed analogy. While Baba did preach that Knowledge (Jnana) is the greatest of all paths, he consistently advised the path of Devotion (Bhakti) for the common people because it is more accessible. He compared Bhakti to a Sitaphal (Custard apple), which is described as an easy, juicy, and sweet means to realization that requires little effort. In contrast, the path of Knowledge is likened to a Ramphal (Bullock's heart fruit). This fruit requires great patience to ripen correctly on the tree to be sweet; if plucked early or handled without expertise, it becomes pungent. Thus, Bhakti was recommended as a more straightforward and less demanding path for the masses.
Baba taught that Knowledge (Jnana) is the greatest path, so why did he recommend Devotion (Bhakti) to most people?
