Baba mentions that his Guru never gave him a mantra. What, then, did the Guru expect from him as a disciple?

📖 Chapter 19

Baba clarifies that his Guru's expectations were not centered on traditional rituals like receiving a mantra, or 'upadesh'. Despite his own fervent prayers for a mantra, Baba states in Chapter 19 that his Guru never blew one into his ears. Instead, what the Guru truly desired was the disciple's complete and loving attention. Baba's sole contemplation was his Guru; he would gaze at his Guru's face day and night, feeling no other need for hunger or thirst. This intense, unwavering focus and devotion were all his Guru expected. The Guru’s method was more subtle, like a mother tortoise nurturing her young with her loving glance, signifying that spiritual wealth comes from faith and constant attention on the Guru, not from a specific verbal instruction.
