Amir Shakkar agreed to stay in the wretched Chavadi because of his absolute and certain internal faith in Sai Baba. Although the external conditions were hostile and his rheumatism caused him great misery, he chose to follow Baba's command. Chapter 22 explains that Amir accepted Baba's firm words as the true "medicine" and viewed the proximity and company of Sai as a "Great Prasad," or a supreme blessing. He stayed there for nine months, even when forbidden from visiting the Masjid, demonstrating a profound level of surrender and trust that Baba's instruction, however difficult, was for his ultimate good.
Amir Shakkar was told to stay in a horrible place to cure his rheumatism. Why on earth did he agree to it, and what does this show about his faith?
