According to Chapter 3, when the author's government service concluded in 1916, he visited Shirdi on Guru Purnima. A fellow devotee named Anna Chinchonikar, concerned that the author's pension would be insufficient for his growing household, pleaded with Sai Baba to find him another job. Baba replied directly, assuring them that the author would get a job but, more importantly, should now focus on doing His service. Baba promised that by remaining devoted, the author's "plates are always full; they will never be empty as long as he lives," and his worldly worries and calamities would be removed.
