According to Chapter 49 of the Shri Sai Satcharita, a true devotee is defined by a complete absence of ego and pride in their physical body. The text emphasizes that genuine "Devotee-hood" belongs to one who is completely devoid of ego. Conversely, a person who possesses the arrogance of knowledge, the pride of superiority, and is an abode of hypocrisy cannot be considered a true devotee. The Satcharita further describes those who do not lovingly sing the fame of their Guru as being the personification of dull-wittedness. Therefore, humility and egolessness are the core attributes of a genuine devotee.
