According to the Satcharitra, why do people find it difficult to choose the path of wisdom (Shreya) over worldly pleasure (Preya)?

📖 Chapter 17

According to Chapter 17, the difficulty in choosing Shreya over Preya stems from a lack of discrimination and an obsession with worldly objects. The text states that as long as one's senses crave worldly things and there is an obsession with 'gold and women', Preya alone will seem sweet. A 'dull-witted person' is easily conquered by Preya because they get caught in the cycle of maintaining their body, family, wealth, and status. Even when both paths are presented and the choice is within one's own control, this lack of wisdom makes the right choice difficult, causing them to embrace the path of ignorance and fall away from their true self-interest.
