According to the philosophy outlined in Chapter 23, what is the root cause of human suffering and what is the prescribed path to liberation?

📖 Chapter 23

Chapter 23 presents a clear spiritual diagnosis of human suffering. It teaches that the soul is, in its true essence, Sacchidananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss) and is beyond the three gunas (qualities). However, it becomes deluded by Maya, the illusory power, causing it to forget its real nature and instead identify with the physical body. This mistaken identity leads to pride and the false notion of being the 'doer' and 'enjoyer' of actions. As a result, the soul becomes entangled in a cycle of calamities and distress. The path to liberation from this suffering, as explicitly stated in Chapter 23, is through Bhakti Yoga, which is loving devotion at the feet of the Guru. This is presented as the only way to calm the succession of calamities and for the devotee to be colored in the Guru's own divine hue, ultimately finding peace.
