According to Chapter 38, what is the significance of Annadan (food donation), and why is it considered the highest virtue?

📖 Chapter 38

Chapter 38 explains that Annadan, or food donation, is the highest virtue and the foremost among all deeds. The text justifies this by stating that while different ages had different primary spiritual practices—Penance in Krita Yuga, Knowledge in Treta, and Sacrifice in Dvapara—the prescribed duty for the Kali age is Charity. Within charity, food donation is supreme because food is the form of Para-Brahman, the Supreme Reality. As detailed in Chapter 38, all beings are born from food, sustained by it, and merge back into it at the end. The chapter emphasizes that satisfying the hunger of any guest, at any time, is a paramount duty, and other forms of donation are considered incomplete without the donation of food.
