According to Chapter 17, why do some people choose the path of Preya, and how are the wise distinguished in their choice?

📖 Chapter 17

Chapter 17 clarifies that people choose the path of Preya when they are driven by an obsession with worldly objects, such as gold and women, and their senses crave these things. The text describes such individuals as "dull-witted" and lacking discrimination and detachment, becoming caught in the cycle of maintaining their body, wealth, and status. On the other hand, the wise are distinguished by their ability to choose Shreya. As Chapter 17 narrates, they are compared to a swan (Maral) that drinks only the pure milk from a mixture of milk and water. These courageous, intelligent, and fortunate individuals cling only to Shreya and consistently turn away from Preya, demonstrating their wisdom and discernment.
