This situation arose from a misunderstanding during Dev's Udyapan ceremony. Dev had invited Sai Baba, who promised to attend. However, Dev was expecting Baba to appear in his known form. As explained in Chapter 40, Baba actually attended the feast in the guise of a Sanyasi, accompanied by two other people. He first appeared alone to ask for the meal and then returned at noon with his companions. Dev, failing to recognize him, later wrote a letter to a man named Jog, complaining that Baba had deceived him. Baba later clarified through Jog that he had indeed kept his promise, stating, "I said I would come with two others, and I went with two others."
